What art files do you accept? We accept files created in Quark X Press, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat and Illustrator.
For Quark files, please make sure you outline all the fonts. For Photoshop, double check that everything is prepared as 300 DPI PSD files. Illustrator files must be embedded EPS files with the fonts outlined and all images embedded in the EPS.
Do not put links in your files.
As long you are using recent versions of all the aforementioned programs, we’re in business!

Can SAMO media create the art for me? Yes we can. We have a team of talented designers available, so we can match one of their distinctive styles to your concept.
When approaching SAMO to do the art, first consider the overall feel you’re going for. Then prepare to hand over as many pieces of the puzzle as you can. This means original photographs and artwork, samples of other packaging you’ve been inspired by, etc. Your guidance and our creativity is all we need to get things moving.
All text needs to be supplied electronically in a Word document.
What do I need to include on my CD/traycard/vinyl jacket? The only requirement for the CD itself is the “Compact Disc” logo, which can be found in our LOGOS section. It isn’t mandatory to include “Made In Canada” on your traycard unless you plan on selling your CD or vinyl record across an international border. In that case, Canada Customs requires you to include it on the traycard (ie. the back of the CD package).
As well, if you are being sponsored by Factor or are part of SOCAN or any such organization, their logo should be visible on the CD itself and/or on the traycard/vinyl jacket, depending on their requirements. Click the above link to check out a list of all of the logos you can download from us.
What’s the deal with barcodes? Do I need one? Barcodes are only necessary for retail and distribution purposes. For example, if you are planning on retailing your CDs, they’ll need a barcode on the traycard to sell and keep track of the item. However, if you are only selling your CD or 12” off the stage, or using them for promo only, you won’t need one. |
